We are seeking a Weekend Writer who thrives in a fast-paced environment and wants to create content that shapes market narratives and influences investor decisions. You will work alongside our editorial team to identify developing stories, produce compelling articles, and drive traffic to Benzinga.com during the high-stakes weekend cycle. Your work won’t just fill pages — it will drive conversations across the financial landscape.
Work Schedule:
Saturday and Sunday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET. This position could be ideal for a freelance journalist who’s looking for a steady part-time role. There may be an opportunity to work additional days beyond the weekend for the right candidate.
What you’ll be doing:
- Identify Themes & Trends: Keep a finger on the pulse of the business and finance world to find topics that matter most to our readers.
- Breaking News Coverage: Monitor business and economic developments in real time, quickly producing accurate and engaging coverage as stories unfold.
- Draft & Refine: Write high-quality articles that follow Associated Press (AP) and Benzinga style guidelines.
- Fact-Check: Ensure every piece of content is accurate, credible, and legally sound.
- SEO & Headline Strategy: Craft compelling, search-optimized headlines and structure content to maximize discoverability and reader engagement.
- Market Fluency: Apply a strong understanding of financial markets, equities, and macro trends to contextualize news for investors.
- Collaborate: Brainstorm fresh, creative content ideas with the team alongside value additive exclusives and interviews to keep our audience engaged.
- Analyze Performance: Use data and analytics to understand what resonates with readers and help increase retention
Requirements for the role:
- Experience: 3+ years of documented news reporting or writing experience.
- Style & Law: Strong working knowledge of AP style and the principles of media law.
- Domain Expertise: A background in business news is strongly desired.
- Market Passion: A genuine interest in trading stocks and financial markets is essential.
