Subject Matter Expert- Writing & Professional Skills
- Academic courses run in 4-week blocks, with students taking one course at a time
- Each quarter includes a 12-week Professional Skills Seminar focused on durable skills such as communication, teamwork, leadership, and self-advocacy
- Courses are fully virtual and blend asynchronous learning with one intentional live session per week
LE3 faculty are partners in student success, helping students connect learning to their professional lives and apply skills immediately at work.
Position Overview
- Design two LE3 courses (one academic writing course and one Professional Skills Seminar).
- Teach one 4-week writing course (anticipated Spring 2026 term).
This is an ideal role for an educator-practitioner who enjoys course design, applied teaching, and working with adult learners.
Courses to Be Designed
ENG 250 – Write with Impact: Clarity, Confidence, and Authenticity (5 QH)
A 4-week applied writing course focused on clear, credible communication for academic, professional, and leadership contexts.
Core elements include:
- Practical, audience-centered writing across genres
- Revision and feedback as core learning practices
- Ethical and effective use of AI tools
- Source evaluation and integration with appropriate citation
- At least 5,000 words of revised writing across four major assignments
PFS 301 – Professional Skills Seminar 6: Teamwork & Collaborative Leadership (5 QH)
A 12-week seminar focused on teamwork, communication, emotional intelligence, adaptability, and collaborative leadership.
Students develop practical strategies for:
Working effectively in teams
- Building trust and role clarity
- Communicating across differences
- Navigating conflict and change
- Applying leadership skills in real workplace settings
Adjunct Faculty Teaching (One Course)
In addition to course design, this role includes the opportunity to teach ENG 250 during a future term.
Teaching responsibilities include:
- Facilitating one 4-week virtual course
- Leading one live session per week (evenings)
- Providing timely, actionable feedback
- Engaging students through discussions and outreach
- Assessing work using provided rubrics and tools

Essential Responsibilities:
Subject Matter Expert (Primary)
- Design two courses aligned to LE3’s applied, work-integrated model
- Translate writing, teamwork, and leadership concepts into skill-based learning experiences
- Create scaffolded assignments integrating reflection, workplace application, and peer learning
- Partner with the LE3 curriculum team to ensure alignment and quality
Adjunct Faculty (Secondary)
- Teach one 4-week writing course using provided curriculum and rubrics
- Engage students through live sessions, discussions, and feedback
- Monitor student progress and communicate concerns proactively
Collaboration & Communication
- Share insights on student learning and trends
- Collaborate with faculty, coaches, and staff using D2L and Slack
- Support a high-touch, student-centered learning experience
Qualifications:
Required
- Master’s degree or higher in English, Writing Studies, Rhetoric & Composition, Communication, Education, or related field
- 3+ years of experience in adult learning, leadership, facilitation, or workforce development
- Strong command of academic and professional writing and revision practices
- Professional or instructional experience supporting team effectiveness, collaboration, conflict navigation, or psychological safety in workplace or organizational contexts
- Experience working with diverse, working adult learners
- Comfort with online teaching tools (Zoom, D2L, Slack)
Preferred
- Online or hybrid postsecondary teaching experience
- Familiarity with work-integrated or experiential learning models
- Professional experience outside academia
Time Commitment
- Approximately 20 hours per week, with effort front-loaded for course design, followed by teaching
- Evening or non-traditional hours may be required
- Teaching assignments may vary by quarter
