Staff Writer- Loudwire
Loudwire, the internet’s leading voice in rock and metal music and lifestyle news, is looking for an all-star Staff Writer to join its team. The ideal candidate is a journalist who has a passion for both heavy music (anything with loud guitars and attitude from the ‘70s through today) and internet culture.
This person can use Google Analytics to find trends and patterns between content and positive website traffic growth. They’ve got a deep understanding of the rock + metal community both on and off the internet, as well as a passion for telling this music’s stories through an engaging, informative and fun lens.
Responsibilities:
- Finding and writing news stories for Loudwire.com— beyond press releases, you know where fans are talking about their favorite bands and you love podcasts with musicians. (For example, you would have been the first to discover this tiny Slipknot air-drumming sensation)
- Develop creative ideas for editorial lists, interviews, video series, op-eds, etc
- Ensure daily, weekly, quarterly traffic goals are met
- Contribute to maintaining Loudwire’s exceptional social engagement
- Optimize and publish all Loudwire.com content for Facebook, Twitter and Instagram
- Generate headlines that are optimized for both social media referrals and SEO, know what the key differences are between optimizing for both mediums
Qualifications:
- Has a background in journalism and understands the basics of reporting and researching a story, requesting public records and asking the right questions while interviewing sources
- Obsessed with music and web culture and has a deep knowledge of rock, heavy metal, classic rock, pop-punk, thrash, grunge, emo and everything in between. Knowing who the FANS of each genre are, and what they value/find interesting, is even more important
- Is passionate about social media, keeps up with current conversations and has a good understanding about the features and capabilities of Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Reddit, and TikTok
- Is comfortable on camera with a desire to host videos for YouTube and social media
- Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite
- Knowledgeable in AP style
- Knowledgeable in WordPress
- Knowledgeable in SEO for media/news websites
