About the role
In this role, you will be responsible for owning the writing and publishing of “The Daily Rip,” Stocktwits’ daily market wrap email newsletter offering a concise recap of the day’s news from the finance world and beyond. You’ll also create content for other non-newsletter initiatives, including featured news stories, interviews, educational items, social media posts, podcasts, blogs, and other media. The person in this role will eventually take over full responsibility for writing The Daily Rip and driving the brand. That will include representing Stocktwits by moderating and/or appearing in live and online events, among other things.
What you’ll do
- Assist the Editor-in-Chief in writing and publishing The Daily Rip and set the general direction of our flagship U.S. market recap newsletter. You’ll also be responsible for publishing our daily “Chart Art” newsletter, which curates the best ideas from Stocktwits.
- Stay on top of U.S. market and economy-related news trends to produce engaging and relevant content, accurately and at a fast pace.
- Collaborate with the Social Media, Community, and Content team to transform newsletter content into a usable format for Stocktwits’ newswire, social media, and other content channels. You’ll also use your market knowledge to help inform these teams what news items to cover and build programming around.
- Execute and support strategies to grow and develop Stocktwits’ broader content initiatives.
- Assist in building and cultivating a network of industry sources and media contacts (to support and distribute our content).
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Professional writing experience (newsletters, blog posts, articles, research, etc.), with a strong portfolio of U.S. market and economy-related content, and keen editorial judgment.
- Extensive knowledge and interest in the U.S. economy, equity markets, and other factors impacting them.
- Experience in a fast-paced editorial environment with a demonstrated track record of meeting deadlines.
- Ability to write in the Stocktwits voice (witty, informative, concise, engaging); Comfortable writing plain English copy by breaking down complex financial jargon.
- Ability to use data and charts with a basic understanding of reporting and studying analytics.
- General understanding of other areas of the world of finance, markets, and investing, (like crypto, commodities, bonds, etc.) so you can tie these subjects back to an equity-focused audience (and vice-versa).
- Basic knowledge of how media businesses operate, online content strategy, and a strong desire to learn more.
- Effective interpersonal skills, particularly in building relationships and working collaboratively both internally and externally.
- Comfort working in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities.
- Experience with social media and other digital platforms to engage with and understand our target audience of active investors and traders.
- Ability to interview newsmakers and develop a network of sources (and media contacts).
- Experience appearing on camera for audio, video, or live events.
