Script Writer for Long Form True Crime Channel | The Finest – $22,000-$25,000 Per Year
The Finest is hiring a high-level Journalist / Scriptwriter who is a storyteller first.
You’ll be working with never-before-seen police bodycam, interrogation footage, court records, FOIA documents, and case files, shaping them into cinematic, retention-driven true crime documentaries built for YouTube.
This is not generic scriptwriting. This is investigative storytelling, narrative construction, pacing psychology, and emotional control.
If you understand how to hold an audience for 45–60 minutes, how to escalate tension, and how to turn raw facts into compelling narrative arcs, this role is for you.
Key Responsibilities:
• Research and write long-form true crime scripts for YouTube documentaries
• Analyze large volumes of raw material (bodycam transcripts, interrogations, police reports, court documents, FOIA files) and extract the story
• Construct clear, compelling narrative arcs with strong hooks, escalation, and payoffs
• Write with retention in mind :pacing, reveals, tension, and emotional rhythm matter
• Translate complex cases into accessible storytelling without losing accuracy or nuance
• Collaborate closely with editors, producers, and packaging teams to ensure scripts translate cleanly to screen
• Revise and refine scripts quickly based on editorial feedback and performance insights
• Deliver consistent, high-quality scripts under real deadlines , reliability is non-negotiable
What We’re Looking For:
• Proven experience writing YouTube documentaries, investigative journalism, or narrative long-form content, preferably in the true crime niche.
• Strong journalistic instincts , you know what matters, what doesn’t, and why
• Deep understanding of YouTube pacing, audience psychology, and engagement
• Ability to balance facts with emotion — tension without sensationalism
• Excellent command of structure, tone, clarity, and escalation
• Comfortable working from primary sources (police reports, interrogations, legal documents)
• Familiarity with collaborative workflows (Frame.io, Google Docs, editorial feedback loops)
• Genuine interest in true crime, with respect for victims and real-world impact
• Self-driven, detail-oriented, and able to thrive without rigid structures
• Comfortable under pressure — speed + quality is the standard
Why Join Us:
• Work with teams that have built brands totaling 15B+ views
• No ceiling on growth — performance is rewarded
• Creative freedom with very high standards
• Real opportunity to rise into senior or lead editorial roles
• Be part of a team reshaping true crime on YouTube, not copying what already exists
