Public Health Writer (Part Time, Contract) – $25–40/hour

We’re looking for freelance writers to help produce Force of Infection and FOI Clinical reports. Ideal candidates are either a journalist with experience covering public health or a public health professional with strong writing credentials. This is a process-driven role producing recurring reports. You’ll work 15–20 hours per week, remotely, on your own schedule within weekly deadlines.

Duties

  • Research and write weekly FOI reports covering active outbreaks, surveillance data trends, and relevant policy changes.
  • Translate epidemiological trends and events for either a general or clinical audience, depending on assignment.
  • Follow established fact-checking and review process for all content before publication.
  • Accept or decline editorial assignments for time-sensitive, same-day alerts on an as-available basis.

Qualifications

Either of the following:

  • Health/science journalist with experience covering infectious disease, public health, or epidemiology.
  • Public health professional with demonstrated writing ability, e.g., published clips, newsletter experience, or similar evidence that you can write clearly for diverse audiences.

Compensation

$25–40/hour depending on experience, 15–20 hours/week. 1099 contractor, invoiced biweekly. This is a long-term engagement.
