Plan Document Writer – $57K/yr – $75K/yr

We are hiring 2 experienced Plan Document Writers to join a high-performing, collaborative team supporting medical benefit plan documentation for new implementations and renewals.

The Impact You’ll Make

  • Draft, update, and publish medical benefit plan documents including:
  • Summary Plan Descriptions (SPD)
  • Summary of Benefits & Coverage (SBC)
  • Benefit Plan Descriptions (BPD)
  • Summary of Material Modifications (SMM)
  • Amendments
  • Evaluate existing plan documents and identify required updates for new and renewing groups
  • Ensure documentation accurately reflects plan design and operational execution

Compliance & Research Leadership

  • Serve as a subject matter expert on ERISA and federal benefits legislation
  • Audit documents for legal accuracy and regulatory compliance
  • Research complex benefit questions using internal and external sources
  • Maintain audit-ready documentation at all times

Operational Excellence

  • Manage strict turnaround times and SLAs
  • Navigate advanced platforms including Salesforce, SmartSheets, and MS Office
  • Maintain accurate documentation tracking across systems
  • Support high-volume group renewals (especially during Q4 peak season)

This role requires someone analytical, adaptable, and comfortable navigating complex, highly detailed processes independently.

Required Experience

  • 3+ years of technical writing experience specifically within:
  • Health Insurance
  • Benefits Administration
  • TPA environments
  • Direct, hands-on experience drafting SPDs and SBCs
  • Strong understanding of differences between:
  • SPD
  • SBC
  • BPD
  • SMM/SMR
  • Amendments
  • Knowledge of ERISA and federal benefit compliance standards
  • Advanced MS Word (styles, formatting, templates)
  • Experience with Salesforce, SmartSheets, Excel
  • Ability to audit prior documents and identify discrepancies with 100% accuracy
  • Adaptable and able to pivot quickly in changing benefit environments

Preferred Qualifications

  • QSEHRA experience
  • Medical terminology knowledge
  • TPA or insurance tenure
  • High-volume document management experience
  • Strong audit and compliance mindset
  • Analytical, “legal-style” writing background

Day-to-Day Snapshot

  • Participate in new group implementations
  • Evaluate and revise existing plan documents
  • Identify missing documentation or compliance gaps
  • Manage multiple active documents simultaneously (3–6 per group in Q4)
  • Collaborate heavily with Implementation and Account Management teams
  • Meet strict deadlines while maintaining absolute accuracy
  • Monday–Friday schedule
  • Remote eligible in: AZ, FL, GA, IL, IN, KS, KY, MI, NJ, NY, OH, OK, SC, TN, TX
  • Target start: ASAP
