Pitch: Index on Censorship Wants Submissions – 24/cents + Per Word
Journalist hibernation is nigh. But if you’re not ready for jingle bells just yet, please email me your pitches for Index on Censorship at katiedd [at] indexoncensorship [dot] org.
Please read Index on Censorship. We cover stories around freedom of expression and give a platform to dissident voices. We love commissioning people who are well-placed to write their stories—either in-country or very well connected.
I love stories that surprise me and tell us something new. I’m also a big fan of a strong narrative. While we receive many pitches about media freedom, I encourage you to think outside the media box.
Some of my favorite stories to commission have been about a Georgian museum of dissident poets and the origins of LGBTQ+ comic books.
If you followed my first request (well done, you’re on the “nice” list), you’ll have seen that we publish features, comment pieces, and culture pieces. They’re all open for pitches!
A festive wish: I would love to find more writers in South and Central America and Africa. If you write about rights and freedoms, do say hello, even if you don’t have a fully-formed pitch right now.
Send pitches to katiedd [at] indexoncensorship [dot] org. I’ll look through them in the first few weeks of January. I likely won’t reply before then because I’ll be too busy eating mince pies.
