News Editor – $40-$85/hour
St. Joe Current is hiring a Freelance Editor to own the line edit, AP style consistency, and fact checking across every story we publish. This is the role that keeps the journalism solid. You’re the last set of eyes before a piece moves to the Editorial Director for final approval.
What you’ll do
- Copy editing. Grammar, clarity, structure.
- AP style enforcement. Every story, every time.
- Fact-checking. The primary fact-check role in the newsroom.
- Source verification. Cited claims, documents, and attribution.
- Structural review. Before stories go to the Editorial Director.
- Style guide maintenance. Building and updating the outlet’s editorial standards over time.
What you bring
- Five years minimum in editorial or fact-checking work.
- Strong AP style background.
- Comfort with investigative reporting standards.
- Discipline to be rigorous without slowing the newsroom down.
The details
- Hourly ($40 to $85) or per-story flat rate. Roughly $1,000 to $1,500 per month range.
- Remote acceptable.
