The Role
As Head of Editing at Knwn Local, you’ll build and develop a team of video editors who transform raw real estate content into high-impact YouTube videos that help agents dominate their local markets.
This is a player-coach leadership role where you’ll spend 70-90% of your time managing, mentoring, and building systems, and 10-30% hands-on editing complex projects.
You’ll own editing quality standards, team development, and operational excellence within your pod, partnering closely with Pod Managers, YouTube Managers, and Strategists to deliver retention-driven content at scale.
This role is perfect for someone who loves developing editors as much as editing itself someone who gets energized by building systems, coaching talent, and multiplying their impact through others.

Role – What You’ll Own
Team Leadership (50%)
- Manage and develop 25-50 video editors with weekly 1-on-1s and performance coaching
- Lead team edit reviews and monthly training sessions
- Build onboarding programs and career development pathways
- Conduct performance reviews and hiring (portfolio screening, interviews)
- Foster long-term editor relationships and team retention
Quality & Systems
- Own editing quality standards, style guides, and templates
- Maintain >85% First-Approval Rate through QA processes
- Lead A/B testing and retention analysis to improve video performance
- Create efficiency systems (templates, motion graphics libraries, workflow tools)
- Track team metrics (approval rates, turnaround times, retention performance)
Strategic Partnership
- Collaborate with Pod Managers and YouTube Managers on content strategy
- Present editing insights in monthly client strategy calls
- Work cross-functionally with writers and designers
- Handle client escalations with solutions-focused approach
Hands-On Editing (0-20%)
- Edit 0-4 high-complexity videos monthly for training demos
- Stay current on YouTube trends and editing techniques
- Model excellence and share innovations with the team
Responsibilities – What We’re Looking For
Experience
- 5-7+ years editing professionally with 2+ years managing teams of 4+ editors
- Track record of hiring, coaching, and developing talent
- Comfortable with the full management cycle including difficult conversations
Technical Skills
- Expert in Adobe Premiere Pro and proficient in After Effects
- Deep understanding of YouTube retention, pacing, and algorithm optimization
- Can troubleshoot complex issues and teach advanced techniques
- Portfolio showing both your work AND examples of editors you’ve developed
Systems Thinking
- Experience building scalable workflows, style guides, and template systems
- Skilled at documentation (SOPs, training materials)
- Comfortable with project management tools (Asana, Notion, Frame.io)
- Process optimization mindset—always improving efficiency without sacrificing quality
Leadership & Communication
- Give direct, constructive feedback that motivates and accelerates growth
- Proactive communicator who flags issues before they become crises
- Can translate technical concepts for non-editors
