Freelance Writer – Roller Skating

The Roller Skating Association International (RSA) is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to supporting the success of roller skating rink owners. As part of our mission, we publish Rinksider Magazine four times per year, providing valuable industry insights, business strategies, and marketing techniques for rink operators.


We are currently seeking experienced freelance writers to contribute insightful, well-researched articles on a 1099 contract basis.

Position: Freelance Writer (Remote)

Compensation: $0.10 per word

Typical Word Count:

  • Features: 1,500–2,500 words
  • Columns: 700–800 words

Publication: Rinksider Magazine (Quarterly Print)

Circulation: 1000

Responsibilities:

  • Research and write engaging, business-focused articles tailored to roller skating rink owners.
  • Cover varied topics, including profit growth strategies, marketing tactics, business law, and industry trends.
  • Conduct 5-7 interviews per article with rink owners, business experts, and industry professionals.
  • Engage in phone interviews, often after business hours or on weekends, as many rink owners operate in the evenings.
  • Ensure content meets AP style guidelines and maintains high standards for grammar and punctuation.
  • Meet strict deadlines (articles assigned a month in advance).
  • Fact-check, incorporate data and statistics, and think outside the box to develop fresh angles.
  • Maintain professionalism and respect for business owners’ privacy.

Requirements:

  • Minimum 5 years of writing experience, with pre-edited portfolio examples required.
  • Strong knowledge of AP Style, grammar, and punctuation.
  • Ability to work on your own and manage your own time.
  • Comfortable with phone or Zoom interviews; email-only interviews are not the norm.
  • Ability to conduct in-depth research and synthesize findings into compelling content.
  • High energy and passion for writing—you’ll be talking to a variety of people, from roller skating athletes to corporate business owners! Roller skating rink owners work evening hours, so availability for interviews may vary based on the day and business owner.
  • Quick turnaround times and ability to meet deadlines consistently.
