Are you a journalist or feature writer who can find the “human story” hidden within a technical manual? We are seeking a meticulous Freelance Feature Writer to succeed a long-tenured veteran of our editorial team. This is not a standard corporate copywriting gig; it is a specialized role for a writer who can translate complex, industry-specific technical standards into clear, engaging, and narrative-driven storytelling for our global membership.
We are a prominent Standards Development Organization (SDO) and non-profit. We don’t just write rules; we define the technical and scientific benchmarks that keep the world running safely and efficiently.
Responsibilities:
- Technical Narrative Blend: You will bridge the gap between heavy technical documentation and compelling journalism. You’ll take deep-dive scientific or engineering topics and make them accessible and interesting to a professional audience.
- Editorial Consistency: Supporting 6 issues per year, you will be responsible for crafting lead features and articles that align with our high standards of accuracy and craft.
- Specialized Research: You will move beyond surface-level reporting to understand the nuances of standards development, technical compilations, and industrial applications.
Qualifications:
- 5+ years of experience in journalism or feature writing, specifically within technical, scientific, or engineering-heavy industries experience writing for organizations like ASME, ISO, IEEE, ANSI, or publications like MIT Technology Review.
- Experience in the non-profit or SDO sector is a significant advantage.
