Role Description This is a full-time remote role for an Editorial Assistant at Random Lengths News. The Editorial Assistant will support the editorial team with copyediting, proofreading, and formatting articles for digital and print publication. Daily tasks include organizing submissions, fact-checking, maintaining editorial calendars, and ensuring content accuracy, clarity, and consistency with the publication’s style and mission. The role also involves coordinating with writers and editors, preparing content for online platforms, updating website content, and assisting with basic research and source verification. The Editorial Assistant may help with headline writing, captions, social media copy, and administrative tasks related to production deadlines and community engagement.
Qualifications
- Strong Writing and Editorial skills, with the ability to support story development and refine content for clarity and impact.
- Proficiency in Text Editing and Proofreading, including grammar, style, and fact-checking for both digital and print formats.
- Effective Communication skills to collaborate with editors, reporters, contributors, and community stakeholders in a remote environment.
- Familiarity with journalism practices, community or advocacy reporting, and an interest in social justice, labor, and local politics.
- Comfort using digital publishing tools (e.g., CMS platforms, shared document tools) and managing multiple deadlines in a fast-paced setting.
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Relevant coursework or experience in journalism, communications, English, media studies, or a related field is preferred but not required.
