The JABFM seeks an experienced Copy Editor to join the editorial office team. The main responsibility of the position is to ensure that all published articles are clear, concise, and free from grammatical errors. The Copy Editor works closely with JABFM authors and the Managing Editor.

Key Responsibilities

Proofreading and editing of grammar, spelling, punctuation, syntax, and sentence structure.
Reference and citation verification.
Adherence to JABFM style and standards.
Plagiarism checks (in some instances).
Communicating copy edits to authors and receiving feedback.
Final review of page proofs before publication.

Requirements

BA in Communication, Journalism, or Language Arts.
Working knowledge of scientific and medical terminology.
Attention to detail – with the ability to recognize errors and inconsistencies.
Familiarity with AMA style.
Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to provide clear feedback to authors.
Ability to prioritize high-profile articles for early publication.

Preferred Qualifications

Familiarity with academic publishing, best practices, and copyediting software.
Experience copy editing for a medical journal in a fast moving and ever-changing publishing environment.

Pay: $50,800.00 – $75,800.00 per year
