Book Lover Editorial Writing Team

Love books and want to turn that passion into real-world experience in publishing, journalism, social media, or digital marketing? Bookstr is looking for creative, enthusiastic, book-obsessed people to join our Editorial team and help us create content for a community of readers who love books as much as we do.

This is a hands-on volunteer internship for people just starting their careers. You’ll have the chance to create real content, build a professional portfolio, gain experience promoting books and authors, and see firsthand how editorial works at a major digital media platform. If BookTok and Bookstagram are part of your daily scroll and you always know which books and authors people are talking about, we want to hear from you!

Our Mission Bookstr helps readers discover their next great book—and supports the authors and publishers who bring those stories to life. We recommend books, showcase authors, and create content that connects readers with books they’ll love, while giving the publishing industry meaningful ways to reach them. We believe every story has the power to inspire, challenge, and connect us, and we’re committed to amplifying a wide range of voices, with a special focus on underrepresented and marginalized communities.

Your Responsibilities:

As an Editorial Intern, you will be an integral part of our content engine. You will:

  • Write Articles: Write engaging listicles, opinion pieces, and book reviews for the website under your byline.
  • Spot What’s Trending: Keep an eye on BookTok, Bookstagram, publishing news, and social media trends to pitch timely content ideas.
  • Collaborate Across Bookstr: Work with our social, graphics, and video teams to help turn ideas into content across different formats.
  • Take Part in Special Projects: Contribute to campaigns and content involving authors, publishers, influencers, and other creators.

What We’re Looking For:

We’re looking for curious, motivated people who love books, take initiative, and are excited to learn. You don’t need to arrive knowing everything, but you should take the time to learn how things are done and put that knowledge into practice.

  • Strong Communication: You should be a confident writer who can adapt your voice for different audiences and conversation styles.
  • Attention to Detail: We provide style guides, training materials, and step-by-step resources to help you succeed. We’re looking for people who will actually read them, refer back to them, and apply what they learn to their work.
  • Initiative & Independence: Remote work requires you to be proactive. That means staying on top of assignments and deadlines, using the resources available to you to find answers, asking thoughtful questions when you need help, and taking responsibility for your work.
  • Book & Social Media Knowledge: You should genuinely enjoy books and have a strong sense of what’s happening across the reading community, publishing world, and platforms like Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube.
  • An Inclusive Outlook: Bookstr is committed to showcasing a wide range of books, authors, perspectives, and voices, particularly those who have historically been underrepresented in publishing.

Why Join Bookstr?

This is a volunteer position built around hands-on experience, mentorship, and career development. Here’s what you can expect from your time with Bookstr:

  • Learn Editorial From the Inside: Get hands-on experience with the tools, platforms, workflows, and best practices used to manage a large digital media presence.
  • Build Work You Can Show: Take ownership of projects and create published work, campaigns, and specific accomplishments you can add to your résumé and professional portfolio.
  • Gain Real-World Experience: Learn how social media, editorial, graphics, video, and book promotion work together at a digital media company.
  • Grow Your Publishing Network: Work alongside people in digital media and gain exposure to authors, publishers, creators, and others throughout the book world.
