Dark Documentary Scriptwriter | Creator Atlas
We are looking for a long-term scriptwriter for dark documentary/disaster content. This is a paid, remote contract role with a consistent flow of scripts for the right candidate (weekly uploads).
Your job is to look through a research brief we provide and dig deeper where necessary to gain a full understanding of the topic. Then you’ll create an outline and write a high-quality 3000+ word script.
You must be capable of handling longer compilation-style projects.
You must understand content in the niche and be capable of figuring out the right structure for each script with the first draft. That means understanding the timeline of events, the key factors/actions/people that led to disaster, and creating a compelling “knock-on effect” story for viewers, not a dry list of facts.
Revisions should mainly address retention, pacing, or wording. If we have to rebuild the core story structure and/or re-check research due to inaccuracies, the script is not useful to us even if it’s otherwise well-written.
We’re hiring a writer for a disaster documentary channel, and two writers for true crime channels, so if you have strong experience in either of these, please specify that in your application.
What we’re looking for
- Must understand long-form content within the niche
- Must have strong knowledge of storytelling structure
- Ability to understand and turn factual information into an easy-to-follow story
- Understand the importance of primary sources of information – we cannot make claims that aren’t factual
- Working knowledge of setup, tension, escalation, and payoff
- Must be able to write in the persona of the channel narrator
Ideal Candidate
Someone with experience in research-heavy topics. Ideally, you watch dark/disaster documentary videos regularly and are familiar with leading channels in the space.
We work with multiple channels and are currently expanding. So there’s room to grow if you’re willing to take ownership and put the work in!
