About Hearth & Home Midwifery

Hearth & Home Midwifery is a small, community-based midwifery practice serving families in Portland, Oregon and the Columbia River Gorge. We provide attentive, relationship-centered care and are passionate about helping families feel informed, supported, and empowered throughout their pregnancy, birth, and postpartum experience.

We are looking for a creative, reliable, and social-media-savvy person to help us grow our online presence and share the heart of our practice with the community.

About the Role

This is a part-time, remote Social Media Assistant position for someone who understands what makes content engaging on today’s social platforms.

You will help manage and grow Hearth & Home Midwifery’s presence on:

  • Instagram
  • TikTok
  • Facebook
  • YouTube, including Shorts

The ideal person is comfortable working independently, has a good eye for engaging content, and understands how to turn one piece of content into multiple social-media posts.

Responsibilities

  • Create engaging content for Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, and YouTube with the direction of the business owner
  • Edit short-form videos for Reels, TikTok, and YouTube Shorts
  • Help develop a simple weekly content calendar
  • Write captions, hooks, and calls-to-action to be edited and finalized by business owner
  • Schedule and publish posts
  • Repurpose existing photos, videos, educational content, and practice resources
  • Stay current with social-media trends and tools and identify trends that would fit our brand
  • Help brainstorm content ideas related to pregnancy, birth, postpartum, newborns, and midwifery
  • Track basic engagement and identify what types of content are performing well
  • Create and implement a plan to grow our followers on all platforms

What We’re Looking For

  • Demonstrated experience managing social media for a business, organization, or monetized personal brand
  • Experience growing a social media brand while maintaining authenticity
  • Strong understanding of Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, and YouTube
  • Experience creating and editing short-form video
  • Comfortable using Canva, CapCut, Edits, or similar tools
  • Strong writing and communication skills
  • Creative eye for photography, video, storytelling, and branding
  • Organized, dependable, and able to work independently
  • Comfortable taking initiative and bringing new content ideas to the table
  • Respectful and thoughtful when working with pregnancy, birth, newborn, and family-related content
  • Understanding of privacy and confidentiality is essential

What This Role Looks Like

This is a small, flexible role averaging approximately 5-10 hours per week. We are looking for someone who can make a meaningful impact within a limited number of hours by working efficiently and strategically.

A typical week might include:

Creating 1–2 short-form videos

Repurposing content across multiple platforms

Writing and scheduling posts with approval from the business owner

Creating Stories or prompting Stories for the business owners

Reviewing basic analytics and creating a strategy to create growth

Planning upcoming content

Carrying out content technically for owners’ ideas

We will often provide photos, videos, ideas, and access to existing practice content. You do not need to create everything from scratch. What’s most important to us is that you can help us convert our ideas and expertise into content that converts into followers and engagement on social media through your technical skills.

Compensation

$27/hour

Approximately 5-10 hours per week, with the possibility of increasing hours in the future as the practice and social-media presence grow.

This is an independent contractor position.
