SEO Content Manager — Contract – $2,800.00/month
This role owns our content pipeline end to end, across every client account. Research and planning, production and editing, SEO execution, publication, performance reporting, and the systems that hold it all together.
It is a pipeline ownership role rather than a writing assignment. You develop the topic recommendations, bring them to the client for approval, and then own everything that follows: production, quality, SEO execution, publication, and the process that keeps output consistent as it scales. Candidates looking primarily for a writing seat will not find this a good fit.
Responsibilities
Planning and briefs
- Own the editorial calendar across all client accounts and hit a monthly publishing target
- Conduct keyword and topic research; map each piece to search intent and a target page
- Develop content topic recommendations and present them to clients for approval
- Write briefs covering target keyword, angle, structure, internal link targets, and length
- Participate in onboarding meetings with new clients to understand their business, audience, and voice
Production and editing
- Fact-check claims, statistics, and citations; verify that every outbound link resolves and is credible
- Match each client’s voice and enforce a house style guide
- Final proofread for grammar, formatting consistency, and no placeholder text shipped
SEO execution
- Title tags, meta descriptions, heading hierarchy, image alt text
- Internal linking into money pages and between related posts
- Keyword usage that reads naturally rather than stuffed
- Identify existing posts worth refreshing and re-optimize them for current intent and rankings
Publishing
- Format and publish in WordPress: featured images, categories, scheduling
- QA every live post on desktop and mobile before it is called done
Reporting
- Track content performance in Google Search Console and GA4
- Report monthly to clients on rankings, traffic, and what the content is producing
- Feed those results back into the following month’s topic planning
Process ownership
- Maintain the style guide, brief templates, and production documentation
- Improve throughput and quality over time, and document the workflow so it survives turnover
Tools
WordPress, Semrush or Ahrefs, Google Search Console, GA4, and Google Workspace. You should be proficient in using them.
Qualifications
- Demonstrated professional content experience, preferably at an agency or on an in-house content team
- Practical keyword research skills and fluency with a research platform such as Semrush, Ahrefs, or comparable
- Working knowledge of on-page SEO sufficient to execute it confidently
- Comfort reading performance data and adjusting a content plan based on it
- Client-facing communication skills. You will be in onboarding meetings and reporting conversations representing our agency
- Strong self-editing and proofreading. You are the only set of eyes on this work before it publishes
- Rigorous fact-checking discipline. Published inaccuracies under a client’s name are a serious matter, and this role is the last line of defense against them
- Proficiency in WordPress
- Proven ability to work at production volume without quality degradation
- Comfort operating independently against a calendar and a target, with minimal supervision
Be prepard to provide the following before interviewing:
- A brief note on your interest and fit, no more than three paragraphs
- URLs of three published articles you wrote, ideally in different voices or verticals
- A piece you wrote that ranks, and the query it ranks for. We will look it up
- A short description of how you approach keyword research and turn it into a publishing plan
- Example of reporting you have created
- Your realistic sustained monthly output, and the factors that affect it
