Firearms & Ammunition Content Writer – $2,400/month
Ammo.com sells ammunition online. We believe in doing things the right way: fair prices, fast shipping, and respect for your rights and privacy. Real-time inventory, so what you see is what we have. Orders in before 3 PM Eastern ship the same day. We sell ammo, not data.
Alongside the store we run a deep content library. Caliber guides, cartridge comparisons, best-of roundups, and buying guides. That content is how most people find us, and it is how a lot of them decide what to buy.
Who you’ll work with:
You will report to our CMO, who runs day-to-day marketing and content. Ammo.com is a small, fully remote team. Editorial, SEO, and design are separate seats, so you will not be doing all of it yourself. You will be the person whose judgment on guns and ammunition the rest of the team defers to.
About the role:
We’re hiring a writer to own the guides and comparisons our customers read before they buy.
Editorial, SEO, and design are handled by people who are very good at what they do. This seat holds the line on the shooting side, someone who buys ammunition, shoots regularly, and knows the market the way our customers do. That’s the difference between content that ranks and content people trust. A product recommendation can be technically correct and still be one no experienced shooter would make. A cartridge comparison can hit every keyword and still miss the question people actually argue about. You’re the one who catches that before it publishes.
Know who you are writing for. Our customers are overwhelmingly working and retired American gun owners buying for home defense, range time, and carry. Tradesmen and technicians running 9mm, 5.56, and 12 gauge. Retirees carrying a .380 or shooting a .38 Special revolver. They are practical and value-conscious, they have been doing this a long time, and they can tell instantly when a writer hasn’t.
You should have a clear opinion about what makes these articles good. A caliber guide that actually helps someone choose. A comparison that names the real tradeoffs instead of hedging. A “best” list that recommends what you would recommend to a friend, backed by real performance data and honest about where a round falls short.
Much of the near-term queue is updating and rebuilding content we already have. We also publish new pieces, and you will write those too.
If you want AI to do the writing for you, this isn’t that role. We use Claude heavily for research and will expect you to as well, but we hire writers who consider themselves writers. And if you want to write only, and would rather not weigh in on a Reddit thread or an email draft or a topic brief, you will be underused here.
Who thrives here:
We work asynchronously in ClickUp, in writing, across time zones. Nobody is looking over your shoulder, which means the work has to move without someone pushing it.
The person who does well here notices what is wrong in a brief and says so before it ships. They raise a hand early when something is unclear. They are curious about how our tools can make the research better, and equally willing to say when a tool is producing garbage.
They also take the byline personally. Your name goes on this work, and we want someone who cares how it reads.
Responsibilities:
- On-site content (writing new guides, comparisons, and best-of roundups, and updating and rebuilding existing ones)
- Independent research (surfacing expert testing, ballistic data, and trade sources, and keeping every attribution and link intact in the finished piece)
- Content quality review (reading drafted and published work and flagging what is inaccurate, awkward, or off-key for a shooting audience)
- Topic and angle development (taking a search opportunity from our SEO lead and shaping it into how someone in this space would actually break the subject down)
- Occasional photography and graphic design coordination
- Community presence (representing the brand in firearms communities, including Reddit)
- Cross-team sounding board (reviewing email and campaign copy, and flagging where the site itself gets in a buyer’s way)
About you:
- You buy ammunition and shoot regularly, across handgun, rifle, and shotgun
- Volunteers what you know instead of waiting to be asked for it
- Fluent in the US ammunition market, including what is available, what it costs, and what people actually run
- Professional writing experience with published work you can share
- Writes clean, accurate English prose
- Has used Claude or a comparable AI tool for research and can walk us through how
- Comfortable working asynchronously in a project management tool such as ClickUp
- Available for ongoing part-time work (~20 hours/week) as an integrated member of the team; this is a long-term seat, not a gig
Bonus points if you have:
- Published bylines in firearms, hunting, or outdoor media
- Reloading, competitive shooting, hunting, or CCW instruction experience
- Working knowledge of SEO fundamentals
- Experience in retail firearms or ammunition, or with an FFL
What’s in it for you?
- $2,400 per month for part-time availability (~20 hours/week), fully remote
- The first 90 days are a mutual look at whether this is the right fit for both parties
- Real ownership of a content library a lot of people read, and a direct line to the CMO
- Your judgment as a shooter changes what we publish. This is not a seat where domain knowledge gets overridden by a keyword tool
Pay: From $2,400.00 per month
