Freelance Microdrama Writer
Dollhouse Labs is an early-stage AI × entertainment company building new ways to create and distribute serialized stories.
We’re looking for experienced freelance microdrama writers to create original short-form series with us. You’ll get access to Dollhouse’s in-house AI storytelling and production tools and work directly with our team to develop, write, iterate, and bring stories to screen.
This is project-based, paid work for writers who understand what makes vertical drama addictive: immediate hooks, memorable characters, escalating conflict, ruthless pacing, and cliffhangers that make it almost impossible not to watch the next episode.
What you’ll do
- Develop original, high-concept microdrama premises built to hook viewers immediately.
- Create and test short narrative hooks for TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube, using audience response to rapidly learn which characters, premises, tropes, and stories resonate.
- Write fast-paced vertical episodes with strong emotional turns, sharp dialogue, escalating stakes, and compelling cliffhangers.
- Build season arcs that sustain tension across dozens of short episodes.
- Work hands-on with Dollhouse’s in-house creative tools to develop characters, write and revise scenes, and bring stories to screen.
- Collaborate closely with our team and help shape the tools themselves as we invent new creative workflows.
- Use audience data like retention, completion, and conversion to make subsequent stories stronger.
- Revise quickly on feedback without losing character or emotional impact.
What we’re looking for
- Experience writing vertical drama, microdrama, serialized fiction, or similarly high-retention narrative formats.
- Ideally, credits on successful series for platforms like ReelShort, DramaBox, ShortMax, GoodShort, FlexTV, or similar.
- Deep fluency in commercially effective story engines, especially romance, romantic suspense, revenge, secrets, power dynamics, and relationship-driven drama.
- Excellent instincts for hooks, episodic structure, cliffhangers, and emotionally charged dialogue.
- Comfort moving quickly and iterating based on creative feedback and audience response.
- Curiosity about AI-assisted production and excitement about helping invent a new way to make stories.
Bonus points
We’d especially love to hear from writers who have worked on commercially successful microdramas, understand U.S. audiences, have experience creating hooks or paid-social creative, and have strong opinions about why some microdramas are genuinely addictive while others fall flat.
To apply
Please send a short introduction, relevant credits, links to produced work, and 1–3 writing samples. If you can, include any context on how your work performed and a few sentences about one microdrama you think works exceptionally well and why.
This is freelance, project-based work, with the potential for an ongoing relationship if there’s a strong creative fit.
