We’re looking for a Senior Copywriter who can think strategically, write persuasively, and elevate the creative standard across our organization. This is more than a writing role. You’ll help shape messaging, strengthen campaigns, mentor other writers, and collaborate with designers, videographers, marketers, and strategists to create work that performs and makes an impact.

The ideal candidate requires very little hand-holding. They’re naturally curious, proactive, detail-oriented, and capable of taking ownership from concept through execution. Core Responsibilities
1. Strategic Copywriting & Campaign Development
- Write compelling copy for websites, digital ads, landing pages, email marketing, social media, paid advertising, political campaigns, branding projects, blogs, video scripts, print collateral, and digital marketing initiatives.
- Develop messaging that persuades audiences to donate, volunteer, purchase, vote, register, or take meaningful action.
- Translate complex ideas into clear, compelling, audience-focused messaging.
- Adapt voice and messaging across multiple brands while maintaining consistency.
2. Messaging Strategy & Brand Development
- Develop messaging frameworks, positioning statements, campaign concepts, and brand narratives.
- Participate in creative brainstorming sessions for client campaigns, branding projects, websites, social media, and video marketing.
- Identify opportunities to strengthen messaging across campaigns before work reaches clients.
- Support Cogency Strategic initiatives through strategic communications, campaign messaging, political copywriting, and public affairs marketing.
3. Editorial Leadership
- Review, edit, and elevate copy written by other members of the content team.
- Provide thoughtful, constructive feedback that helps writers improve their craft.
- Maintain exceptional editorial standards across every client deliverable.
- Ensure consistency in voice, messaging, grammar, accuracy, and brand positioning.
4. Performance-Driven Marketing
- Collaborate with digital marketing, social media, video, and account management teams to build integrated campaigns.
- Write copy that supports measurable marketing objectives, including fundraising, lead generation, awareness, advocacy, and conversions.
- Analyze campaign performance and refine messaging based on insights and data.
- Balance creativity with measurable business outcomes.
5. Innovation & Continuous Improvement
- Stay current on copywriting, marketing, AI, fundraising, political communications, and digital marketing trends.
- Utilize AI responsibly to improve efficiency while ensuring every deliverable reflects strategic thinking, originality, and exceptional quality.
- Research new messaging opportunities that strengthen CLM and Cogency’s impact.
6. Collaboration & Leadership
- Work closely with creative, marketing, video, social media, and account management teams throughout content development.
- Help establish scalable writing processes and best practices.
- Communicate proactively and manage multiple projects with minimal oversight.
- Serve as a trusted creative resource across both CLM and Cogency initiatives.

Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, English, Journalism, Strategic Communications, or a related field preferred.
- 8+ years of professional copywriting, marketing, communications, or advertising experience.
- A strong portfolio demonstrating your writing prowess.
- Exceptional writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
- Demonstrated ability to write persuasive copy across multiple formats and industries.
- Experience developing strategic messaging for marketing campaigns.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines.
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills.
- Ability to both receive and provide constructive feedback.
- Self-starter who thrives with autonomy.
Preferred Qualifications
- Agency experience (mandatory).
- Political campaign or public affairs experience.
- Nonprofit fundraising experience.
- Experience writing high-converting drip email campaigns.
- Brand messaging and positioning experience.
- SEO copywriting.
- WordPress, HubSpot, Mailchimp, Constant Contact, or similar CMS/marketing platforms.
- Experience mentoring or managing writers.
- Familiarity with digital advertising, paid media, and conversion-focused copywriting.
- Experience writing video scripts and integrated campaign messaging.
