PR & Social Media Strategist – $65,000-$75,000/year
PR & Social Media Strategist
Full-time/Remote/Eastern & Central Time Zones Only
About Instructional EmpowermentInstructional Empowerment partners with K-12 school systems to strengthen instruction and leadership through the Model of Instruction, School Advancement methodologies, and tools like Empowerment Central — helping districts build lasting instructional capacity from the classroom to the central office.
The OpportunityInstructional Empowerment is looking for an experienced, writing-driven PR and Social Media Strategist to build real, tangible visibility for our work in the communities we serve. This isn’t a role built around long-term national brand campaigns — it’s built around quick, achievable wins: a local news feature, a district backlink, a customer quote that turns into a story. You’ll be the person turning our customers’ and implementers’ success into content the world can see, and turning their enthusiasm into momentum other districts can feel.
This is an experienced, individual-contributor role, not an entry point into PR or communications. The right person already speaks K-12 fluently, has a track record of building grassroots momentum for a product, and can write polished, accurate, short-form content quickly and in volume.
What You’ll Do
- Personally write press materials, media pitches, blog content, and social copy built around customer and implementer stories.
- Conduct customer interviews and turn them into authentic testimonials and short case studies.
- Build relationships with local and regional publications — district newsletters, local news, education trade press, and community outlets.
- Pitch and secure customer-centered stories, interviews, and podcast placements.
- Proactively secure backlinks and website links back to Instructional Empowerment through guest posts, partner mentions, and district relationships.
- Design and drive a social media advocacy strategy for customers and implementers — identifying energized customers and giving them simple, shareable ways to tell their own story.
- Build and maintain a repeatable outreach pipeline, tracking placements, links, and relationships across every business unit.
- Report quick-win results on a regular cadence and keep an organized, visible system of progress.
- Partner closely with Product Marketing Managers and the Social Media Specialist — you own where and how customer and product stories get placed externally; they own product accuracy and channel execution.
What We’re Looking For
- K-12 fluency, required. You already understand districts, schools, and how this industry operates — you’re not learning the language on the job.
- Several years of relevant PR, communications, or advocacy experience. This is not a role for someone early in their career.
- Concrete, specific examples of past work: helping a company start a movement, activating brand advocates, or running a successful grassroots campaign for a product.
- An exceptional writer who can produce accurate, polished copy quickly and in volume.
- Demonstrated success building relationships with local or regional media, districts, or partners for coverage and links.
- Highly organized and detail-oriented — comfortable tracking outreach and relationships across multiple business units without dropping the thread.
- Entrepreneurial and process-minded, able to build and run a repeatable outreach pipeline solo.
- High energy and fast-moving, with a bias toward quick, visible wins over slow-building national campaigns.
Backgrounds We LoveA traditional national PR background isn’t the right fit here — this role lives in local and regional relationships, not national outlets. Strong candidates often come from:
- Communications, PR, or social media leadership for a school district.
- Local or regional journalism.
- Product or brand advocacy / grassroots marketing for companies that serve K-12 education.
