Editorial Assistant, Henry Holt Books for Young Readers – $50,000/year
1. About Our Client:
The organization is an imprint within a larger children’s publishing group focused on producing books across various children’s genres including picture books, chapter books, graphic novels, middle grade and young adult novels, and nonfiction. It operates within a broader publishing company that is part of an international media group with multiple imprints globally, offering a wide range of award-winning titles for children and adults.
2. About the Opportunity:
The Editorial Assistant supports the editorial leadership by managing administrative tasks critical to the imprint’s operations and contributing to editorial projects. This role ensures smooth communication and coordination across departments and with external stakeholders, directly supporting the publication process and contributing to the success of children’s books from acquisition through production.
3. Responsibilities:
• Provide administrative support to the editorial director and executive editor, including scheduling meetings, managing shipping and the imprint library, and handling correspondence.
• Manage publishing process documentation such as metadata, contracts, invoices, and payment requests.
• Organize materials for internal and external presentations.
• Maintain professional communication with authors and agents.
• Log, read, and evaluate manuscript submissions.
• Assist with editorial tasks including proofreading and line editing.
• Write copy for sales materials, catalogs, book jackets, and metadata.
4. Requirements:
• Attention to detail and strong follow-through.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills; proofreading or copy editing experience is a plus.
• Ability to prioritize and work independently in a fast-paced environment.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Workspace.
• Demonstrated interest in the children’s book market.
• Previous publishing or media internships or experience preferred.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
5. Pay Range and Compensation Package:
• The salary for this role is $50,000.
