Audience & Social Media Manager – $15 – $20 an hour
Find the audience. Launch the stories. Build the distribution engine.
Public Square Magazine publishes thoughtful, faithful Latter-day Saint commentary on public life. This role is for someone who loves the after—the moment a great piece is ready, and you get it in front of the exact people who should see it.
You’ll own distribution: growing our reach through our own social channels and through relationships. You’ll leave with a sharp portfolio of campaigns, reels, and launches—and a real “I grew it” story you can take anywhere.
What you’ll get
True ownership (not just posting):
You’re responsible for finding the audience for our work—building repeatable systems for how each piece gets out into the world.
Creative reps that compound:
Make reels, clips, carousels, threads, and share assets that translate big ideas into native, high-performing content.
Relationships + access:
Build a network of distribution partners (newsletters, pages, communities). You’ll learn how modern publishing actually spreads: trust, consistency, and smart packaging.
Direct editorial partnership:
Work closely with editors and authors to shape launches, pull the best angles, and mobilize author networks—without constant meetings.
A career runway in audience growth:
You’ll strengthen skills in content strategy, branding, community, and analytics—useful across publishing, comms, and marketing.
Flexibility:
Remote, async-first. One editorial board meeting/week plus a small number of touchpoints; otherwise you control your schedule.
What you’ll own (day to day)
- Distribution strategy: Establish, analyze, and update our social + distribution plan (what we’re testing, what we’re doubling down on).
- Content packaging: Write/record social messages and create branded assets (including reels/short-form video).
- Publishing engine: Schedule and post across our channels with consistent cadence and clean execution.
- Community presence: Respond to comments/DMs, moderate as needed, and surface patterns or risks to editors.
- Partnerships: Build and maintain relationships with newsletter operators, page admins, community leaders, and aligned orgs—so our best work gets shared beyond our own feeds.
- Author activation: Coordinate with authors so they amplify their pieces (provide copy, assets, timing, and friendly nudges).
- News awareness: Track relevant news and cultural moments so we’re timely, smart, and prepared.
How you’ll grow (fast)
- Build a portfolio of launches: the assets, the campaign plan, and the results.
- Learn repeatable distribution systems: partner pipelines, author launch kits, post formats that scale.
- Sharpen your creative range: hooks, scripts, edits, packaging—without losing editorial seriousness.
- Develop analytics instincts: what signals matter, what to ignore, and how to turn insights into action.
Who thrives here
- 2–5+ years in social media, audience growth, content marketing, or publishing distribution (or equivalent outcomes).
- Strong examples of content you’ve shipped: reels/clips, carousels, threads, campaign launches.
- Comfort doing both: creative production + outreach/relationship-building.
- Clear writer with strong taste—knows how to be compelling without being cheap.
- Steady, responsive, and organized; can run a calendar and hit deadlines without babysitting.
- Values fidelity to Latter-day Saint doctrine and our mission; can represent it with clarity and charity in public spaces.
Team & cadence
- Collaborate with the Managing Editor, Operations Lead, Associate Publisher, and editors/authors.
- Weekly editorial board meeting; otherwise async with clear priorities and fast feedback loops.
- High-trust environment: you’re measured by outcomes and consistency, not busywork.
Pay & details
- Compensation: Hourly, ($15-$20)
- Hours: Part-time (20 hrs/week).
- Work Location: Remote (Intermountain West preferred; strong candidates elsewhere considered).
Why this role
Because distribution is the multiplier. You’ll take meaningful, mission-driven work and make sure it lands—building a real audience engine and the kind of growth story that opens doors.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $15.00 – $20.00 per hour
