About Pickup Music
Pickup Music is a leading music education company based in Los Angeles that has been growing steadily since 2016. We are the leaders in structured, long-form learning with over 30,000 members for guitar, bass, and (soon) piano.
About the role
We’re looking for a skilled writer with a strong music background (preferably piano) to join our lessons team. You’ll help craft clear, engaging lesson copy that guides learners through our interactive courses for guitar, bass, and piano.
You’ll work closely with our editors and educators to:
- Write concise, learner-focused copy that supports video and TAB/notation tools.
- Communicate music theory concepts clearly and accurately.
- Capture the Pickup Music voice: friendly, conversational, and to the point.
If you have experience writing educational content for musicians and can explain complex ideas in simple, inspiring ways, you’ll be a great fit.
A note on the use of AI: At Pickup, we encourage the use of modern tools to enhance your work and speed up your process. That said, you’re ultimately responsible for creating natural, human copy that feels authentic and never reads like it was generated by a machine.
You’re the right person for the job if:
- You’re a skilled musician with at least an intermediate understanding of music theory.
- You can write confidently about piano, bass, and guitar. (Piano experience is a big plus.)
- You can write lean, purposeful copy that supports learning. This isn’t textbook-style writing. Our copy provides snappy, learner-focused guidance that complements video lessons and interactive TAB/notation.
- You have an excellent command of US English and write at a native level.
How to apply
Apply below with the following:
- A cover letter with a few short paragraphs explaining who you are, why you’re a great fit for this role, your approach to editing, and any relevant experience
- Your resume or portfolio
- A few examples of your writing work (preferably related to music)
