Wedding Crashers Busted: Duo Nabbed After Stealing $60K in Gifts from Glendale Reception
This section of the blog talks about ways in which you shouldn’t make money. It’s meant to act as a lighthearted way to talk about hustles and money-making (though in this case, discouraging people from performing these criminal acts, obviously).
Imagine this. A couple is tying the knot at the Renaissance Banquet Hall in Glendale, surrounded by family, friends, and all the usual wedding vibes. But lurking outside are two guys who apparently watched “Wedding Crashers” and thought it was a how-to guide on grand theft.
Their names? Armean Shirehjini and Andranik Avetisyan, both from Los Angeles. These geniuses allegedly crashed the wedding, scooped up about $60,000 in cash plus a box stuffed with gift checks, and made a break for it. Shirehjini ran out of the hall with the loot like he was in some low-budget heist movie, then hopped into a getaway SUV where Avetisyan was waiting.
Police detectives weren’t about to let these wedding crashers enjoy their honeymoon with someone else’s money. Over the next week, they dug into video surveillance and tracked the pair down. On Friday, they arrested Shirehjini at his Sherman Oaks home, where he had a handgun on him. Luckily, no shots were fired.
When detectives searched the homes of both suspects, they didn’t just find the stolen cash and checks. They also uncovered multiple firearms and, because these guys clearly wanted the full criminal starter pack, various narcotics.
The Glendale Police said detectives are still going through piles of evidence and that the investigation is ongoing. And if anyone out there knows more, they’re encouraged to give the Burglary Detectives a call at 818-548-3127.
So yeah, the newlyweds got their gifts back, and these guys learned the hard way that crashing weddings is only fun in the movies.
