    If only everyone knew this before putting serious investment into social media marketing.

    Another takeaway from the different types of metrics is the cost of looking at the wrong metrics, like Facebook likes. Especially since Facebook will actually punish you for having disproportionately low engagement.

    Thanks for this, Patrick. There’s so much detail and metrics here – it’s a tad overwhelming but in a good way. Fascinating 😉

    Perhaps the biggest mistake we make is treating social media as an afterthought. As something we simply use to drop links into, without ever spending more than 5-10 minutes building real connections that transcend a “numbers game” approach. Turning follower quantity into follower quality.

    Yes, you’re right, many focus on the vanity metrics. Engagement and website acquisition or sign ups lead to highest productivity and sustained growth.

    Social Media is vast!! Opposite to search engine optimization it gives quick result if we have targeted audience.
